The Italian's Suitable Wife by Lucy Monroe

    April 2004 UK ~ May 2004 Aus/NZ ~ Oct 2004 North America

Enrico DiRinaldi still wants a wife and children, even though an accident has left him unable to walk.  So he proposes a marriage of convenience to Gianna Lakewood.  Having always longed for a baby herself - and having secretly loved Rico since she was a teenager - Gianna can't say no...

The passion Rico ignites in his innocent bride leaves her breathless.  But when she realizes that Rico's full recovery from his injuries is imminent, and his beautiful ex-fiancee is waiting in the wings, Gianna is sure he won't want her any more.  So why is Rico so intent on keeping his convenient wife by his side?

    The Playboy's Seduction

The story of Rico's brother, Andre, can be found in The Playboy's Seduction, a novella in the Dec '05 Mills&Boon Modern Romance Extra  with Lynne Graham's Prisoner of Passion to be released in the UK only.  (This book was printed with the Special Epilogue.)  Buy it as an eBook from eHarlequin.

Bethany's plan was to travel to Rome, find a gorgeous Italian, have a week long affair and return home reassured she was not the passionless prude her ex thought she was. When Andre, a luscious business tycoon, crosses her path, it seems her plan is set in motion. But is there more to this fling than just what's between the sheets…?

As a little something extra for the wonderful readers on the eHarlequin boards, I wrote a Special Epilogue for Both Stories.  I highly recommend reading both stories before reading the special epilogue.

    Dedication

Lucy Monroe's trademark, deliciously sensual scenes--and especially those  with an impotent Rico--will take your breath away! The Italian's Suitable Wife is highly recommended! -  The Romance Readers Connection

Lucy Monroe is one of the best at writing the truly Alpha male hero. With a strong plot and compelling characters Ms Monroe is fast becoming one of my favorite Harlequin authors. The Italian’s Suitable Wife is sure to gain her even more loyal readers. Ms Monroe is defiantly a new author to watch. - A Romance Review

Lucy Monroe, shows once again that she is an awesome talent and just gets better with each book. Enrico is very much the alpha male, who thinks that Gianna will be the "perfect" little wife, but he soon realizes he has so much more.  - Barb Hicks, The Best Reviews

    what READERS are saying...

"I am in good old "Aussie land," and thought I would e-mail you about your great book. I just finished reading 'The Italians Suitable Wife'.  I enjoyed every page of it." - Thelma M, Australia

"Lucy, Finally got a chance to read Rico's book this weekend. It was really good. Can hardly wait for Tuesday's chapter [of The Playboy's Seduction]." ~ Elaine

"I just had to tell you Lucy how much I loved both stories [The Playboy's Seduction & The Italian's Suitable Wife]. When I started reading the on-line read, I didn't know there was a book about Rico. I went crazy trying to find it in the book stores here for 2 weeks. And then I fell in love with it. I wish we could have more, but I guess we can't be too greedy. I just love Andre and I love the way you had Bethany go after him at the end and tell him how she felt before telling him about the baby, that way there were no misunderstandings. Great Great Great story..." ~ Nanouche

"Lucy, I finished your book and OMG...That has to be one of the best books this year. I'm slowly building a list of the greats adn that has to be on it. I loved both your hero AND your heroine. Their situation was believable and I absolutely loved that as much as she loved him, she wasn't blind to him. He was huffy and a pain and annoying and she gave pretty much as good as she got in their arguments. Also, I never knew you could DO that with your hand! LOL! BTW, any chance of us getting the phone number of the guy on the cover? I'd give up my job and let him take me to Italy, LOL! Just had to tell you, it was wonderful and a highly recommended read. " ~ Dee

"I finished your wonderful book, The Italian's Suitable Wife, and OH MY GOSH, I loved it, loved it!! Sorry, I'm repeating myself! I loved the hero, he was arrogant enough to make you want to swoon, but not too arrogant, and male enough to make you want to smack him, if that is understandable!!
AHH... I might do a reread!" ~ Trish

"Lucy, I finished it last night - only had to stay up until 11pm (which is actually pretty early for me!). I loved it! I can't wait to read more of your books!" ~ Jodi

"Lucy, I loved The Italian's Suitable Wife! I read it this morning in about and hour and a half!  I just devoured it.  Enrico was a yummy alpha male, and Gianna, while very sweet was still a strong heroine." ~ Kelly

"Lucy, I stayed up way too late last night reading The Italian's Suitable Wife. Once I started it, I literally could not put it down. Love Rico and Gianna, especially how she stood her ground with him. This is the very first Presents I have read, and I'm looking forward to your next one in December. Thanks for another great book." ~ Barb V.

"I finished this last night, and I LOVED it!!! Gianna was definitely not a simpering, weak-minded heroine. I loved her spirit. I liked how you take the formula of an HP and twist it around and make it unpredictable. Instead of having a lame, "roll the eyes" kind of conflict, you solve those issues right upfront and give the story more depth by using realistic obstacles. And the love story didn't suffer at all for it, either. I could go on and on, but heck, I just plain loved it :)" ~ Stacy

"IT WAS FANTASTIC...Enrico was such a MAN! Loved the little spitfire heroine, Gianna! What a treasure Enrico found with her! Any guy passing her over for another would have been an idiot. It was a good thing she had patience, cuz I sure would have lost it long before she did with him! hahaha" ~ Joni

"Lucy, Hi, in the past week, I've finished reading The Real Deal and I also read The Italian's Suitable Wife. I loved them both. Your books are the kind I love to read. I love all the emotions you make me feel when I read your books. I can't wait for your next one to come out." ~ Lorrie

"I got a chance to read this....very nice. I really liked Rico and Gianna's story. Very emotional and engaging. Was hard to put the book down and I found myself thinking about the characters when I wasn't reading......just what a good book should make the reader do IMHO." - Barb S.

"I really enjoyed reading Rico and Gianna's story...I loved how Rico was so alpha but that Gianna gave it right back to him.. The sexual tension was great, I just loved Gianna's comments, it cracked me up." - Judy F

"Well, Lucy, you did it again! This book of yours is an absolute must read and I'm glad that I bought it through Amazon. I did try to find it in London, when I was there a month ago. Now I know why I couldn't find it; it must have been sold out! Everything in this story was at the right place at the right time!! You know so very well who to describe an Italian macho man, who likes to keep his emotions to himself.." ~ Marjon Stroet

"Hi Lucy! I just want to tell you how much I enjoy reading The Italian's Suitable Wife. I'm hooked by the story and the hero/heroine.  Please keep writing! I'm looking forward to all your new releases." ~ Melody from Singapore

"Dear Lucy - I’d like to let you know how much I enjoyed reading ‘The Italian’s Suitable Wife’. I actually sat down in two sittings over this past weekend and finished reading the book – I enjoyed it so much I didn’t want to put it down. This title was released this month and I bought it on the on the strength of your previous title ‘The Billionaire's Pregnant Mistress’ which was the first book of yours I’d read, and the fact I was impressed by the excerpts and background information I’ve read on website. I just love the contents you have available for your readers. Unknowingly I’ve bought all your Australian released titles and I can’t wait for The Sicilian Marriage Arrangement and The Sheikh's Bartered Bride to be released here in Australia.  Take care and thank you so much for my wonderful ‘escape’ with glimpses of my homeland (Greece) that brings back so many memories and pleasurable time in reading your stories." ~ Regards, Aggie from Australia

"Hi Lucy - I'm reporting back on 'The Italian's Suitable Wife'. I loved it, a bit different from a lot of Presents, Rico certainly had a difficult situation to deal with and Gianna was lovely. What can we expect next? Are you going to keep writing Greek and Italian heroes or will you write an American? I often wonder with authors if you have a European heritage or do you just prefer writing mediterranean men?" ~ All the best, Sheri

"Lucy, Your book finally arrived! I read it and I loved it! Rico and Gianna are wonderful! It seemed that Rico sort of rushed the "pregnancy" issue but I guess he felt that would "secure" his marriage." ~ Lidia from North America

"I bought 'The Italian's Suitable Wife' today and as I got home I told myself I have a quick peek before starting my work and did not stop till I finished it.  For that pleasure I do thank you." ~ Giovanna in Australia

"Well, I just tore through TGTU, and loved it! Marvelous and very explicit love scenes. And on the back of that, I also read The Italian's Suitable Wife too. Even more explicit... but tender and loving too.  Well done, Lucy!" ~ Josie M. in the UK

"Read The Italian's Suitable Wife and enjoyed it!" ~ Lili in the US

"Just finished 'The Italian's Suitable Wife'. Very romantic, sweet book. Enjoyed it very much. Looking forward to your next." ~ Bookaholic in the US

“Lucy, I thoroughly enjoyed your last two published books!  (The Billionaire's Pregnant Mistress and The Italian's Suitable Wife)  You are such an impressive writer!   There are two things that I especially want to applaud you on!  The first is the terrific job you do with your "Alpha male."  In all five of the books that I have read by you, the hero has been a very take charge type of guy, yet you don't have to hate him before you love him!  Your hero always has a vulnerable side to him that captivates the reader's heart very quickly.  The second area that deserves applause is how well you tell your story from your characters view point.  I would never guess the characters come from your head!    You are very creative and excellent at giving your characters their own voice. . . and you are very consistent!  Thank you for some very enjoyable escapes and lingering ‘feel good’ feelings!” ~ Love and blessings, Katy in the USA
